#4 Devotional-experiencing NEW growth

The final devotion in the Revival Preparation series.

“Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with gratitude.” Colossians 2:6-7 (HCSB)

Rooted IN HIM

David wrote,

“How happy is the man who does not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path of sinners or join a group of mockers! Instead, his delight is in the LORD’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night. He is like a tree planted beside streams of water that bears its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. The wicked are not like this; instead, they are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not survive the judgment, and sinners will not be in the community of the righteous. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin.” Psalm 1:1-6 (HCSB)

The one who is living a life which is constantly mindful of finding themselves in place of holiness, will be a person who is finding joy for the journey.  Does this describe your adventure called a life in Christ?

Our text reminds us we will have strength for this journey by spending time recalling what we have learned and are learning from the Word of God.  These precious words are instruction for our life, for comfort and at more times than we care to recall for correction.  We ought to praise God for such precious things in our life. With our praise, we should be applying those words to our daily life.

Take note of the life we find in a relationship with the Lord.  The action speaks clearly in the King James:

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Psalm 1:1 (KJV)

Do not walk in the advice of those who do not know God;

  • Do not stand in the way of sinners coming to Christ, through a reckless life;
  • Do not participate with those who degrade the Word of God and the things of God.

David contrasted the life of a Christian with the one who is following their own evil desires and plans.  There is no joy, no pleasure (limited at best), and a sure future of destruction for this one…unless he/she turns to God.

It is a choice we make!  We either choose to walk with God or to blaze our own path.  One path is hopeful, filled with grace and mercy; the other is a life of hopeless despair with pain and sorrow.  Again, the choice is for the individual.

Be reminded we are to “seek Him, while He may be found.”  As He is knocking at the door of our life, or knocking on a door we have shut off to Him in our life and limiting His Lordship He will continue to knock.

“Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and have dinner with him, and he with Me.” Revelation 3:20 (HCSB)

Pray for revival to begin in your life as you walk with Him who willingly gave His life for you.  Seek ways to share the fire of revival in your life with others who need Jesus.

The next series of devotions will be on the Passion of Christ.
