Jason Ingram, Zach Williams and Jonathan Lindley Smith comprise the Zack Williams Band, a Christian band which has produced a number of awesome songs relating to the life struggles of the young generation of today, giving them hope in the midst of a messed-up world. That messed word is surely robbing many of the abundant life promised by our Savior, Jesus Christ.
A song which captured by heart and each time I hear it while driving around our county, is a song titled Fear is a Liar. What an incredible song speaking to the very heart of the time we live in, today! With all of the concerns over government shut downs, building a wall, the moral compass of America falling into what appears disrepair, and the struggles of attempting to make it through the day, we have the words of this song:
“He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
‘Cause fear he is a liarWhen he told you were troubled
You’ll forever be alone
When he told you you should run away
You’ll never find a home
When he told you you were dirty
And you should be ashamed
When he told you you could be the one
That grace could never changeFear he is a liar
He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
‘Cause fear he is a liar.”
Recently, I used the following Scripture in a devotion for a group of men which needed this reminder:
“Therefore, don’t be afraid of them, since there is nothing covered that won’t be uncovered and nothing hidden that won’t be made known. What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. What you hear in a whisper, proclaim on the housetops. Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So don’t be afraid therefore; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:26-31 HCSB)
I needed this reminder!
With so many things taking place in the world today, with heartaches and pain, with individuals offending and being offensive fear is a strong emotion within the life of our times. We need to reminded that God instructed those who were before us in the Old Testament Scriptures over and over again, “Do not fear…” Joshua was told several times not to allow fear to keep him from the task God has placed upon him; David wrote many times about the One who could conquer the fears within his life as he ran for his life with a madman trailing his every move; Noah was to build a boat and not fear the coming punishment. Oh, if any of these and so many others had been captured by the fear so easily swaying them, then God’s works would not have been realized.
The same is true of us. Allowing fear to paralyze us will cause us to be unable to allow the works and wonders of a great and good God to be displayed in our life.
“We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose. For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined, He also called; and those He called, He also justified; and those He justified, He also glorified.” (Romans 8:28-30 HCSB)
Saints, fear God! Show Him reverence, obedience, and follow Him in the way of hope. Fear has crippled you, is tearing you up then call on His name and claim His promises from the Word, walk in His redemption, and work through Him!
Until next time…
