I’m in my office and the smells of thanksgiving are filling the building. Turkey’s are cooking, preparations being made for the Community Dinner. This is when thanksgiving is turned into the “hands and feet” of Jesus. Last year we served approximately 200 meals of traditional thanksgiving meal fare to families and individuals in and around the Rockford area.
Last night the students gathered in the FLC to assemble their boxes for Operation Christmas Child. These kids went shopping Sunday night, purchased items for the boxes, and took time to lovely box these up to present the collection center. Since Sunday we have been gathered items from various churches in the area for OCC. That again is an example of the “hands and feet” of Jesus at work at RBC and in Coosa County.
Last year, through the collection center, we shipped 1,380 boxes. RBC contributed 208 through the collection center. Tonight, the JOY Class will have their annual packing party and box up the items they have been collecting through the year. Again, the “hands and feet” of Jesus at work through the family of fai
th at RBC.
Additionally, we are collecting items for the victims of hurricane damage in Florida and for the families which have endured the devastation of fires in California. We are putting together a shipment of item
s to be taken out next week. These items will be helpful to all those families which are living in tents in the costal town of Panama City. Through this simple act of compassion, we are seeing the “hands and feet” of Jesus at work in Central Alabama.
These are just some of the things we are do at this time of the year and I am so very thankful for a church family that believes in reaching people by sharing the love, grace and care of a living God.
